White psychopathology is still the ruling global ideology that drives the overwhelming militarism that keeps capitalism as the ruling economic system.
It is hard not to detect in Dayan Jayatilleka’s whiny tonalities, the vitriol of those who feel they have lost or about to lose their privileges. Privileges he seeks to harvest for himself. Privileges gained at the expense of the majority of the people in this country.
These privileged fractions constitute a minority but a vocalized one, who have benefited from the long despotism of imperialism. They act as if they have lost or about to lose their ‘white’ privileges.
Perhaps their whining is a preemptive strike. For they still rule. It is a minority of money, which of course takes cover behind property rights (stolen from the majority), language, religion, etc.
In Sri Lanka, this echo chamber is most dominant of course in Colombo and their English media, but not only.
Now Dayan claimed to be more sophisticated than that. Of course he has claimed to be many things advanced. But after you winnow away his anecdotal evocations of the great practitioners of economic transformation, what we get is a homo invertebrate ready to bend over for any passing wind.
You hear such seething as his, more clearly, in the white settlers of South Africa and Zimbabwe. In fact in whites everywhere, including here, who act somehow besieged by the reality that the world does not fully belong to them yet.
Dayan’s screechy tones are not only resonant in those much-deplored supporters of Donald Trump, but also in the salaried breed of white liberals who get venomous when you challenge them about their right to enforce ‘human rights’ on us darkies.
You hear it in the Samantha Powers and the Bachelets, in the voices of the political and cultural attaches of white embassies, and your run-of-the-mill development studies stormtroopers and NGO stipendiaries.
But, white psychopathology is still the ruling global ideology that drives the overwhelming militarism that keeps capitalism as the ruling economic system. A reality that Dayan has lost sight of due to his overweening careerism (a word that echoes other tonal meanings in Sinhala).
Whites reserve their right to wage war on any part of the world they see fit. Barring the few nuclear exceptions who can hit back and hard, they seek to bully and prod those countries and peoples who have held out against invasion. The Sinhalas and the Haitians certainly stand out.
The whites feel that Sri Lanka’s continued attempts at independence are to be put down firmly, and these attempts must be interpreted as going against some global norm devised in some white sanctum albeit with a few darkies of color for frills.
