The politics of interpreting a vote

Summary

Some thugs whose wealth acquisition is the direct result of gross human rights violations (genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and such) in proportions so monumental that they just cannot be swept under the carpet, single out a country for censure, never mind the fact that the entire circus is a monumental lie.

Here’s a Facebook post on the recent UNHRC resolution against Sri Lanka that puts things in perspective:

‘There are no “friends” in geopolitics. For the bigger nations there are allies, enemies of enemies, threats, and enemies. The little middle income or lower ranked ones who are neither here nor there are supported by sugar daddies or looking for one. The voting on any matters of the UN is not based on facts (or fiction) but carrots and sticks. But that’s all right, it’s expected.

‘What’s sad is that some Sri Lankan’s going about saying “Sri Lanka” has failed in securing “support” and crying crocodile tears for Sri Lanka, these are all just politically motivated morons who can’t either understand international “pressure politics” on other countries or just refuse to acknowledge the obvious realities of global politics and instead use this to score local political points posing as concerned patriots. But they are political mouth pieces and stooges of those who can’t come into power by the will of the people of Sri Lanka.’
Spot on.

Here’s an analogy that might help clear things. Well, clear things not for the kinds of morons mentioned above for those who pretend to sleep can never be woken up.  Ok, the analogy.
It’s about one-person/country-one-vote. So, there’s a farmer organization. Every farmer has a vote. However, we are not talking about a commune or an exemplary equal society. There are those who are powerful and those who are powerless. For example the tenant farmer and the guy who dishes out seeds, chemical inputs and credit who will also buy the harvest. He calls the shots. He acts as the extension officer. He proposes. What does the tenant farmer do? He submits to the proposal.
And so, we have the thugs tabling resolutions. Those who have a backbone or are not dependent on the thugs will not be swayed. Those who are weak or have no backbone will. The play-safe dudes will abstain.
That’s the long and short of it. Some thugs whose wealth acquisition is the direct result of gross human rights violations (genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and such) in proportions so monumental that they just cannot be swept under the carpet, single out a country for censure, never mind the fact that the entire circus is a monumental lie.

That’s it, friends and ‘friends’.
